TOASTS
• A good toast is a speech in miniature.
• Never drink a toast or stand,
when it's being offered to you.
However, you should always
stand up and respond to the toast,
even if this means just thanking
the host for the gesture.
• Never should a toast be offered to the guest of honor
until
the host has had the opportunity to do so.
• You should always stand when offering a toast
unless it is a small informal group.
• Never refuse to participate in a toast.
It is more polite and perfectly acceptable,
to participate with a non-alcoholic beverage
or even an empty glass than not at all.
• Make sure that the toast you are delivering
is appropriate
to the intended audience and occasion.
• Be Simple.
Keep your toast short and
to the point.
Avoid use of big words.
The simplest words often sound the most sincere.
• Be Yourself.
BIRTHDAYS
To wish you joy on your birthday
And all the whole year through,
For all the best that life can hold
Is none too good for you.
Happy birthday to you
And many to be,
With friends that are true
As you are to me
CHRISTMAS
Here's to us all,
God bless us every one!
Peace and plenty for many a Christmas to come.
At Christmas play and make good cheer
For Christmas comes but once a year.
Now, thrice welcome, Christmas!
Which brings us good cheer,
Mince pies and plum pudding-
Strong ale and strong beer!
I wish you a Merry Christmas
And a Happy New Year
A pocket full of money
And a cellar full of beer!
Here's wishing you more happiness
Than all my words can tell,
Not just alone for Christmas
But for all the year as well.
At Christmas play and make good cheer
For Christmas comes but once a year.
A Christmas wish -
May you never forget
what is worth remembering
or remember
what is best forgotten.
FRIENDSHIP
May your glasses be ever full.
May the roof over your heads be always strong.
And may you be in heaven half an hour
before the devil knows you're dead.
May your right hand always
Be stretched out in friendship
And never in want.
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.
Love, life and happiness
May your troubles be few and
Your blessings many.
May you live all the days of your life.
Here's a health to all those that we love,
Here's a health to all those that love us,
Here's a health to all those that love them
that love those
that love them
that love those
that love us.
May your neighbors respect you,
Trouble neglect you,
The angels protect you,
And heaven accept you.
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
Slow to make enemies,
And quick to make friends.
May your troubles be less
And your blessings be more.
And nothing but happiness
Come through your door.
May the joys of today
Be those of tomorrow.
The goblets of life
Hold no dregs of sorrow.
May the saddest day of your future be no worse
Than the happiest day of your past.
May the most you wish for
Be the least you get.
May you have warm words on a cold evening,
A full moon on a dark night,
And the road downhill all the way to your door.
Tis better to buy a small bouquet
And give to your friend this very day,
Than a bushel of roses white and red
To lay on his coffin after he's dead.
Always remember to forget
The things that made you sad.
But never forget to remember
The things that made you glad.
Always remember to forget
The friends that proved untrue.
But never forget to remember
Those that have stuck by you.
Always remember to forget
The troubles that passed away.
But never forget to remember
The blessings that come each day.
May there always be work
for your hands to do,
May your purse always hold a coin or two.
May the sun always shine warm on your windowpane,
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you,
And may God fill your heart
with gladness to cheer you.
May you live all the days of your life.
May our house always be
too small to hold all our friends.
My grandmother is over 80
Here's to you and here's to me,
May we never disagree.
But if we do,
The hell with you,
Here's to me!
Love to one, friendship to many, and good will to all.
We'll think of all the friends we know
And drink to all worth drinking to.
It is around the table that friends understand best,
the warmth of being together.
A day for toil, an hour for sport,
But for a friend life is too short.
WEDDINGS
May their joys be as deep as the ocean
And their misfortunes as light as the foam.
May their joys be as bright as the morning;
and their sorrow but shadows
that fade in the sunlight of love.
Grow old with me!
The best is yet to be,
The last of life,
For which, the first is made.
A toast to love and laughter and happily ever after.
MISS
May we live to learn well,
And learn to live well.
Here's to beauty, wit, and beer,
and to a full stomach, a full purse, and a light heart.
None so deaf as those who will not hear.
None so blind as those who will not see.
But I'll wager none so deaf nor blind that he
Sees not nor hears me say come drink this beer.
May the road rise to meet you may the wind be always at
your back the sun shine warm upon your face the rain fall
soft upon your fields and until we meet again may
God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
May there always be work for your hands to do.
May your purse always hold a coin or two.
May the sun always shine warm on your windowpane.
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may God fill your heart with gladness
to cheer you.
May you both live as long as you want,
And never want as long as you live.
May your glasses be ever full.
May the roof over your heads be always strong.
And may you be in heaven half an hour
before the devil knows you're dead.
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
Slow to make enemies,
And quick to make friends.
May the saddest day of your future be no worse
Than the happiest day of your past.
May the most you wish for
Be the least you get.
May your troubles be less
And your blessings be more.
And nothing but happiness
Come through your door.
May your right hand always
Be stretched out in friendship
And never in want.
May the roof above us never fall in.
And may the friends gathered below
it never fall out.
May you have warm words on a cold evening,
A full moon on a dark night,
And the road downhill all the way to your door.
May your neighbors respect you,
Trouble neglect you,
The angels protect you,
And heaven accept you.
May you see each other through many dark days,
and make all the rest a little brighter.
May all your ups and downs
come only in the bedroom.
May you live all the years of your life.
May you live as long as you want
And may you never want as long as you live.
Here's looking at you, kid.
A toast, to our ancestors that brought us this far;
may their efforts not be wasted and
may we do as well by our descendants.
Here's to health, peace and prosperity.
May the flower of love never be nipped
by the frost of disappointment,
nor shadow of grief fall among your family
and friends.
May you be poor in misfortune,
rich in blessings,
slow to make enemies and quick to make friends.
And may you know nothing but
happiness from this day forward.
May your home always be too small to hold
all your friends.
May I see you grey and
combing your grandchildren’s hair.
May you live as long as you want,
And never want as long as you live.
At Christmas play and make good cheer
For Christmas comes but once a year.
May you live all the days of your life.
May our house always be too small
to hold all our friends.
Here's to you and here's to me,
May we never disagree.
But if we do,
The hell with you,
Here's to me!
May we live to learn well,
And learn to live well.
To my wife.
My bride and joy.
May you grow old on one pillow.
May their joys be as deep as the ocean
And their misfortunes as light as the foam.
May their joys be as bright as the morning;
and their sorrow but shadows that fade in the sunlight of love.
As the green hills of home are drenched with raindrops
Like a mother's tears of joy when her child
comes home from the sea,
So does my heart weep
when we are sometimes parted, you from me.
